A Rare Case of Incomplete Rotation of Midgut (stage Ii Arrest)
نویسندگان
چکیده
Abnormalities in midgut rotation occur during the physiological herniation of the midgut between the 5th and 10th week of gestation (Warner, 1997). The most significant abnormality is a narrow small bowel mesentery which is prone to volvulus. This occurs most frequently in the neonatal period. Less commonly (Nehra and Goldstein, 2011), midgut malrotation presents in adulthood with either acute volvulus or chronic abdominal symptoms. It is the latter group that represents a diagnostic challenge. We report a case of a 19-year-old female patient who presented with a 6-months history of non-specific gastrointestinal symptoms. After extensive investigation the patient was diagnosed with midgut malrotation following an upper gastro-intestinal series. The patient was treated with a open Ladd’s procedure and at 3 months was gaining weight and had stopped vomiting. This case presented for its rarity.

Midgut malrotation and incomplete rotation are common causes of neonatal intestinal obstruction. At end of 10 week of intrauterine life, cecum will be placed in subhepatic region temporarily and descends to right lower quadrant by eleventh week. Arrest of cecum in subhepatic region or undescended cecum is a rare congenital anomaly of mid gut. Usually, it remains asymptomatic and is diagnosed in...

Appendicitis is a common surgical condition with various clinical presentations. The diagnosis could be obscured by underlying undiagnosed anatomical anomalies like intestinal malrotation. Intestinal malrotation is a rare foetal anomaly resulting from an incomplete, or failure of midgut rotation and fixation. 85% of cases have been estimated to present in the first two weeks of life. متن کاملA Case of Cardiac Arrest after Topical Phenylephrine Administration in Adenoidectomy Surgery
Some otolaryngologists administer topical phenylephrine for bleeding control in adenoidectomy surgery. Absorption of this drug from surgical site can lead to increase in blood pressure due to vasoconstriction and then bradycardia related to baroreceptore reflex. Our case was an intraoperative arrest of a 9-yrs-old girl related to administration of topical phenylephrine during adenoidectomy how...
